Online dating more popular than PORN?!

The online dating industry is now worth over a billion dollars, that’s about £670 million, compared to the pornography industry which is estimated to be worth between $750 million or £500 million and $1 billion. According to a Forrester report the recent £74 million downturn in the porn industry is due to the rise in online dating.

Just like people lying about watching porn many online daters also have a tendency to lie about themselves when entering their details on an online dating website. Those who are most likely to lie about themselves are men and normally exaggerate their income, lie about their age and height, however women are not exempt they also tend to be dishonest about their age as well as build and weight.

However a study by researchers at Kansas University has found that in general online profiles can be trusted, Prof Jeffrey Hall, who carried out the research, says that “the good news is that the likelihood of people misrepresenting themselves (online) overall is actually very low. Our findings dispel the myth that online daters are that different than anyone else who might find a relationship via friends, school or work.”
